Salary: $53,000 to $60,000 depending in experience

Duration: Term to March 31, 2024

Summary of the Position:

The Energy Advisor Training Program works to create quality career pathway opportunities, within Canada’s environmental and clean technology sector, for Nova Scotian community members that identify as being a part of an underserved or underrepresented group. Our goal is to create a stream of talent to grow Canada’s clean economy and support the rapid transition to a low carbon economy.

We are looking for an experienced educator, workshop leader or facilitator to develop and deliver a high-quality skills training program for participants in our Energy Advisor Training Program.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Based Energy Partnerships, the Training Specialist – Energy Equity will be responsible for the development of approximately six months of course content to deliver specified outcomes. They will also be responsible for the delivery of engaging, participatory, synchronous and asynchronous workshops throughout the program supported with subject matter expertise from our team of trained Energy Advisors.

Specific skills to be covered in this program include math concepts related to construction, building science, heating, cooling and ventilation systems and job readiness.

The Training Specialist – Energy Equity will be confident in an educational support setting, using best practices in education and facilitation to understand participants’ diverse needs in order to support them through the program.

This training will take place primarily online with intermittent weeks of in person delivery. The successful candidate will be comfortable using digital tools to support learning as needed and be a highly collaborative leader who works across departments at the organization to draw form areas of expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an approximately six months training program for Energy Advisor Trainees, focusing on math concepts related to construction, building science, heating, cooling and ventilation systems and job readiness skills to increase employability following graduation from the program
  • Facilitate and deliver engaging, participatory workshops for diverse cohorts of Energy Advisor Trainees, using digital webinar and engagement tools as needed
  • Lead the creation of associated employment skills resources and tools, e.g. training guides, videos, activities, worksheets or pamphlets.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from workshop participants to better future workshop delivery.
  • Remain current on emerging green sector job skill requirements, best practices for adult and employment education, and changing employer needs within the green jobs sector.
  • Assist Internship Leads in tracking and coordinating workshop delivery for two programs.
  • Support the Workforce Development team in additional reporting or administrative needs as required.

Education and Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in course and curriculum design and delivery as well as managing training projects.
  • Must be very comfortable with STEM concepts. A background in contracting, building science etc, would be an asset
  • Experience facilitating or leading workshops, including working with diverse groups and experience with digital workshop delivery considered an asset.
  • Basic Project Management Training or one plus years related experience considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in workforce development, green jobs training or employment skills training.
  • Excellent prioritization skills and respect for deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented approach.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Comfortable and familiar with digital webinar delivery platforms.
  • French language abilities considered an asset.
  • Positive, outgoing and able to work independently or in a team.

Working Conditions:

Open to applicants from anywhere in Nova Scotia, flexible work environment with offices in both Dartmouth and Sydney.

Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours, may be required to meet operational requirements of planning and delivering specific projects at specific times of the year.
