Clean Foundation is working in collaboration with FPEIM for the Community Climate Advisor Position.
Background:
Small towns and rural municipalities are on the front lines of climate change. The commitment to take action is there, but it can be limited by a lack of capacity, resources, and time. Island Climate Action is a new project that will equip rural municipalities on PEI with the tools and skills to promote solutions on climate change.
Position Overview:
The Community Climate Advisor will be responsible for liaising and coordinating with several PEI municipalities, the Federation of PEI Municipalities, Clean Foundation, and other stakeholders as required. The Community Climate Advisor will develop relationships with municipalities; work collaboratively to understand and address needs and knowledge gaps; and assist in the development of Climate Action Plans and/or Land Use Plans in two municipalities. They will receive relationship development support from the Federation of PEI Municipalities and program oversight and guidance from Clean Foundation.
The successful applicant will receive job specific training on overland flooding, hazard assessment, asset and project management. The successful applicant does not need to have work experience in planning; however, school experience will be considered an asset.
The Community Climate Advisor will work from home and at the FPEIM office and will be required to travel across PEI regularly for work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive project specific training courses.
- Meet relevant stakeholder organizations.
- Form relationships with several Island municipalities, guided by the Federation of PEI Municipalities.
- Conduct a Needs Assessment to understand the barriers specific municipalities face to creating Climate/Land Use Plans.
- Select two municipalities to receive support in developing their Plans.
- Review any current or historical Climate and/or Land Use Plans.
- Coordinate a series of Barrier Reduction Workshops aimed at addressing the gaps and needs identified during the Needs Assessment.
- Support two municipalities in developing their chosen Plans and getting them passed by council.
- Conduct interim and final reporting and evaluation.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Education and Required Qualifications:
- Graduated or about to graduate from a post-secondary program focusing on the environment or climate change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate a passion for the environment and social issues.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively with collaborators.
- Excellent organizational, time management and practical problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Aptitude for safe work practices.
- Ability to multi-task in a busy work environment.
- Possess a valid PEI Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
- Own a vehicle.
- No more than 30 years of age at the start of the position.
- A Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or person who has been granted Refugee status in Canada.
- Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) during the position.
- Not currently working for Federation of PEI Municipalities.
- Not enrolled in school during the position.
