Position Title: Technical Analyst
Division: Energy Department – Technical Team
Reports to: Technical Manager
Salary: $45,000 – $50,000 annually

Summary of the Department:
Clean’s Energy Department offers a range of programs that help homeowners to achieve savings in fuel costs and GHG emissions. Each program is designed to serve a specific demographic and may offer free home energy upgrades, deep retrofit consulting services, municipal PACE financing, innovative incentives, and/or other services. Clean’s Technical Team develops and maintains the systems, processes and methodologies that are used by the Energy Department’s field team of energy advisors and our Trade Partner Network. The Technical Team also coordinates energy retrofit work across the province.
Summary of the Position:
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Analyst is focused on quantifying why we pursue upgrades to our buildings. The role bridges the gap between Clean’s field team of certified energy advisors and our technical and administrative teams.
Required duties are varied and include calculation of energy/cost/GHG savings, review and revision of proposed work plans, project management, energy modelling, cost-benefit analysis, financial analysis, approval of invoices and building relationships within Clean’s Trade Partner Network. Role-specific training will be provided. Opportunities for professional growth will be provided per the candidate’s aptitudes and interests.
Our Ideal Candidate:
You have comprehensive experience in the planning and modeling of building energy retrofits such as insulation, heating systems, hot water systems, etc. You have a knack for problem-solving and good working knowledge of building science and the ‘house-as-a-system’ concept. You are a methodical problem-solver, and you are comfortable working on complex planning issues with remote team members.
Specific Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities):
General
- Lead research and development of new upgrade standards and materials.
- Support approvals and revisions of energy efficiency upgrade plans put forth by Clean’s field team of energy advisors.
- Support development for new energy-related programs.
- Support site visits for safety compliance & quality assurance.
Contractor Relations
- Support recruitment of new contractors; onboarding and orientation.
- Support the negotiation of subcontractor contracts and prices.
- Support relationship management with contractors.
- Support process development to monitor and report contractor performance.
- Support implementation of disciplinary measures as outlined in the Guidelines.
Retrofit Coordination
- Support monitoring of delays and holds on outstanding work orders.
- Support the review and approval of contractor invoices.
- Support the distribution of work orders to Clean’s Trade Partner Network.
- Support reviews of proposed project estimates for completeness and feasibility.
- Support revisions of proposed projects in collaboration with Clean’s field team.
- Support quote approvals for select contractor work.
- Support the approval of contractor change orders.
- Support price negotiations with contractors for non-standard line items.
- Support the resolution of QA, warranty and customer service issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in a building-related technical field such as architecture, engineering, HVAC design, etc. or equivalent experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information.
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Experience in managing complex projects.
- Must demonstrate a passion for the environment and sustainability.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work productively as part of a team.
- Proficiency with common office software, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Additional Assets:
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification
- Trade-specific certifications
- Previous experience in non-profit sector
- Previous experience with HVAC or renewable energy system design / installation
- Energy related certifications such as Certified Energy Advisor, Certified Energy Manager, Certified Measurement & Verification Professional, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- The Technical Analyst will be required to work on a computer for long periods of time. A standing desk and ergonomic relief will be provided as needed.
- Site inspections and evaluations may require:
- Driving to the work site
- Working at heights or in tight spaces as needed
- Climbing up and down ladders
- Reaching and working above the head
- Use of basic hand tools
- Use of PPE and safe work practices
