Job location: Remote-Work 

Wage: $16.30 / hour 

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship) 

Start Date: Expected May 15, 2023

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.  

Program Requirements 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;  
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship; 
  • From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship; 
  • Must not be an immediate family member of host employer; 

About the host employer 

Mind Your Plastic is a registered Canadian charity that started in 2016. Mind Your Plastic’s mission to eliminate plastic pollution in Canada. Through our work advocating with municipal government for policies that better regulate materials used in our economy, working alongside Canadian businesses to give consumers better plastic-free choices, and our direct action programming, like our Circular Economy Ambassador Program, we are moving towards a plastic pollution-free future for #PlasticFreeLandAndSeas 

Summary of position  

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be Mind Your Plastic. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for planning and organizing outreach events, representing our organization at events, reaching out to like-minded organizations to share our work, and fundraising. Your days will look different depending on whether you are planning for events, or out in the community participating in one! Some days will involve mostly computer work like reaching out to organizations, planning events, or creating your marketing materials, while other days will be spent talking to the community and inspiring them to make changes for a plastic-pollution-free Canada. The successful candidate needs to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. You should also be skilled in handling administrative duties. Most importantly, you should be passionate about a plastic-pollution-free Canada.  

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Organizing outreach events and campaigns (like Plastic Free July) that share our mission including marketing and planning and incite donations 
  • Developing social media content, graphics, flyers, press releases, brochures, and other marketing materials. 
  • Handling public relations, such as developing strategic relationships, attending events, and conducting informational presentations 
  • Reaching out to like-minded organizations for potential partnership, sponsorship or collaboration opportunities 
  • Performing administrative duties, such as managing emails, general advertising, monitoring budget information, and reporting on financial issues 

Requirements/Qualifications 

  • Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment; 
  • Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback; 
  • Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset; 
  • Experience working with charities is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. 
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills 
  • Moderate experience with Canva 
  • Positive, great sense of humour and eagerness to work in a growing team 

Working Conditions  

– Remote, must have own equipment including laptop, reliable internet connection and effective workspace 

– Working with the public for outreach events, including leading cleanups, delivering informal talks and information 

Physical Requirements  

– Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 2 hours) 

– Must be able to walk along uneven terrain for up to 2 hours, bend over, and lift up-to 20lbs
