Reports to: Senior Manager, Clean Coasts

Salary Range: $50,000 annually

Hours: 35 per week (full-time, term position until December 20, 2024)

Location:  Dartmouth, NS

Anticipated Start Date: Spring 2023

Position Summary

Help homes become more resilient to overland flooding. Clean is searching for a self-directed Program Navigator, with strong interpersonal skills and strategic problem-solving to help guide the development of an innovative climate change adaptation program.

You’ll help the Clean Coasts team launch a new pilot program aimed at increasing homeowners’ resilience to flooding events.  As the Program Navigator you’ll perform detailed flood risk assessments of homes in HRM and New Glasgow. You’ll assess the best contractors, materials and upgrades needed for homes to help mitigate the risks of overland flooding.

As a strong commutator you’ll educate program participants, and the public, on insurance literacy, how to improve their overall homes’ resiliency and how to maintain those upgrades once completed. You’ll help report and track on key progress indicators and support your colleagues to help Clean deliver a brand-new quality program.

Responsibilities

As a Program Navigator, you will:

  • Participate in flood risk assessment training.
  • Liaise with program participants from the point of initial outreach via door knocking, three in-home visits through to file closure.
  • Collect detailed and accurate on-site information about the building and outdoor lawn with data collection forms, measurements and photographs.
  • Communicate with the Program Coordinator to develop and manage an ongoing homeowners’ appointment schedule.
  • Respond to participant calls, issues and complaints pertaining to each flood risk assessment.
  • Vet estimates from contractors and verify the quality of upgrades completed in participant homes during follow-up site visits.
  • Adhere to Clean’s Occupational Healthy & Safety Policy and complete any necessary safety and first-aid training.
  • Participate in public outreach and engagement activities.
  • Communicate and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, homeowners and the project team.
  • Support the completion of reports to funders.
  • Take part in additional training, meetings or other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a university or community college diploma program or equivalent training and experience .
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and timelines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills .
  • Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • High computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Legally allowed to drive in Canada.
  • Experience working in a non-profit is an asset.
  • Experience with overland flooding and/or home retrofit programs is an asset.

Working Conditions:

The Program Navigator will work in a hybrid environment spending some time in-office at one of Clean’s offices as well as remotely. There may be the occasional need to work on evenings and weekends for special events or presentations.
