Position Summary
Become our next safety champion! Clean is looking to hire an enthusiastic individual who has a demonstrated knowledge and keen eye for work-place safety to join our team as the Occupational Health and Safety Field Officer. In this role, you’ll work collaboratively with Clean staff, and our programs, to achieve program targets and ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing workplace safety.
As the OH&S Field Officer, you’ll know, advise and enforce Clean’s safety programs, policies and the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, as applicable to Clean’s operations. You’ll enjoy work where ‘no two days are the same’ as you regularly travel and engage with staff, contractors and homeowners to carry out field safety inspections throughout the province, Clean’s offices and storage facilities.
When you’re not conducting safety audits, you’ll be a competent facilitator and help schedule, develop and implement safety training and Safety Toolbox Talks for the broader Clean team. You’ll continue to help foster an environment where safety is top of mind for everyone.
Responsibilities
As the OH&S Field Officer you will:
- Investigate health and safety related complaints and workplace accidents and near misses.
- Perform regular workplace inspections across Nova Scotia to ensure employee and trade partner compliance with safety standards. This will include on-site inspections annually for Clean staff and members of Clean’s Trade Partner network.
- Oversee the annual WCB Safety Audit process and ensure deficiencies are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
- Oversee regular monthly inspections for Clean’s offices in Dartmouth, Sydney and Charlottetown, as well as storage facilities across Nova Scotia.
- Enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of staff.
- Provide consultation and deliver training programs to staff and management on workplace safety.
- Design and complete safety orientation for all new staff.
- Design policies and procedures that help prevent harm to workers and property. Inspect equipment, design safe work practices, and create processes for staff to follow to minimize job-related hazards.
- Review and update policies, procedures and safe work practices yearly at minimum.
- Engage with the JOHSC and ensure the committee is compliant with provincial regulations.
- Organize and maintain all safety related records & paperwork.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Have at least two years’ experience in a safety-related role.
- Hold a professional safety designation or have a willingness to work towards such designation.
- Fluent knowledge of all necessary safety related Government Acts, Legislation and Requirements.
- Ability to travel throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to various sites.
- Strong time management, organization and interpersonal skills.
- Display strong written and oral communication skills. Must utilize strong presentation and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Etc.)
- Ability to work well independently and with a fun and diverse team.
- Must have reliable vehicle, hold a valid Driver’s License and provide a driver’s abstract.
- Complete a criminal record through Backcheck.
Working Conditions:
The OH&S Field Officer will be required to travel throughout Nova Scotia and at times Prince Edward Island, for on-site inspections. When not in the field, the OH&S Field Officer will be required to work full-time in-office at one of Clean’s Dartmouth locations. This role may require you to access heights and lift up to 20lbs.
