Job title: Climate Adaptation Support Assistant

Job location:  Remote-Work within NS 

Wage: $20.00 / hour

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship)  

Start Date: Expected May 20, 2025

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects. 

Program Requirements
● Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
● Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
● From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
● Must not be an immediate family member of host employer;

About the host employer    

CLIMAtlantic builds relationships, shares information, identifies champions, leads where necessary, and creates a space for all those interested in building resilience to the impacts of climate change.

We are a climate service delivery organization in Atlantic Canada focused on making climate change adaptation approachable. With our highly skilled team, we provide data interpretation, specific climate projections, tailored presentations, networking connections, and capacity building workshops. We support adaptation planning and projects. We also have tools housed on our website that help people find climate adaptation resources, connect with others throughout Atlantic Canada and provide advice on how to best prepare for coastal climate impacts.

The intern will be supported to work from home most of the time (monthly in-person meetings with the NS team will take place location dependent) with travel throughout NS and the ability to travel throughout the Maritimes for one off meetings (carpooling is an option).

Summary of position   

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be CLIMAtlantic. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for supporting the CLIMAtlantic team by supporting adaptation activities, designing and implementing workshops, building relationships, and collaborating with partners and stakeholders. From supporting events and information gathering, to relationship and community building, you will have a varied day with regular check-in meetings and online communication through Slack.

Though you will engage regularly with colleagues, your work requires self-motivation and an ability to work independently with effectiveness and efficiency. Other assets include a positive attitude, creativity and proactivity.

The successful candidate needs to have interpersonal communications skills, both written and spoken; effective time and task management; relationship and community building skills; and experience using different perspectives to solve problems creatively.

Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Support various projects related to adaptation
  • Design and implement workshops, build relationships, and collaborate with partners and stakeholders
  • Social media post creation based on events and networking opportunities hosted
  • Support team members with event planning and post-event follow-up

  • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, etc.), Slack messaging, Zoom
  • Ability to travel within NS independently and the Maritimes region

Working Conditions 

The intern will be supported to work from home the majority of the time. There is a requirement for high quality internet, a well-functioning computer, and a quiet space to work.

Physical Requirements 

Working at a desk on a computer for long hours. Access to transportation to meetings and events throughout NS and the ability to travel throughout the Maritimes (carpooling is an option)
