Wage: $17.31/hour

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship)

Start Date: Expected May 20, 2025.

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.  

Program Requirements 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;  
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship; 
  • From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship; 
  • Must not be an immediate family member of host employer; 

About the host employer 

Positive Action for the Keppoch Society (PAK) is a charitable organization and volunteer society with a board of directors. The Board’s mandate is to develop policy and strategic planning. Keppoch facility staff manage the day to day operations. Their primary goal is to encourage the recreational use of Keppoch Mountain and promote the natural beauty of the region.

Summary of position  

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be Positive Action for the Keppoch Society (PAK). In this position, you will be mainly responsible for maintaining the Keppoch property in an environmentally sustainable manner including the grounds around the lodge and the trail networks and structures located within the property. The successful candidate needs to have an overall passion for being in nature.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Maintaining the Keppoch property in an environmentally sustainable manner including the grounds around the lodge and trail networks located within the property.
  • Evaluate the needs of our forest and trails located within the property ~ 480 acres.
  • Conduct work to support suggestions of sustainable practices for managing trails.
  • Report to Keppoch Manager on a weekly basis with updates on the status of tasks and projects.
  • Identify areas of water flow and drainage that needs to be upgraded.
  • Interest in supporting Keppoch events and programming such as bike shuttle services and special events.

Requirements/Qualifications 

  • Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
  • Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;
  • Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;
  • Have some experience as well as passion for working in the outdoors.
  • Experience working in the skilled trade industry would be considered an asset but not required. (training on machinery will be provided).

Working Conditions  

The job will require working conditions mostly outdoors with varying weather conditions. If the weather is unfavorable, the candidate may not be required to work that day. There may be times when candidate will need to interact with visitors on the trails that may have questions

Physical Requirements
Physical requirements involve ability to hike and work outdoors all day in addition to operating heavy duty equipment (training provided).
