Wage: $20.00/hour

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship) 

Start Date: Expected May 20, 2025

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.  

Program Requirements 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;  
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship; 
  • From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship; 
  • Must not be an immediate family member of host employer; 

About the host employer 

The Ecology Action Centre is an environmental charity based in Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia. We take leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. Grounded in over five decades of deep environmental change work and fueled by love and grief, EAC takes a 50-year perspective on what is needed to build towards a time of thriving and flourishing. We work to equip human and ecological communities for resilience and build a world where ecosystems and communities are restored not just sustained. 

Summary of position  

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be Ecology Action Centre. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for the organization and development of the Ecology Action Centre’s ‘Teens Group’. A typical day to day in this role will include development of materials, creation of a schedule, list of activities, presentations and coordinating with project leaders at EAC for teen engagement opportunities. The successful candidate needs to have experience working with community specifically youth. The intern will also assist in activities including; stakeholder engagement, policy engagement and events that occur on the electric school bus file. 

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Developing engagement materials for the purpose of promoting the EAC Teens group including infographics, videos, social media posts, fliers, etc. 
  • Developing a schedule, meeting templates, presentations and layout for the monthly meetings, and additional training offered for the youth. 
  • Meeting with interested EAC Staff to host a youth or host an additional training session. 
  • Draft up the skills and tools learned for youth to have an idea of what to expect. 
  • Managing and creating an email for the teens to use when reaching out for inquiries.  
  • Managing the students who choose to stay engaged with their projects over the summer, including emails and hosting meetings. 
  • Create an online registration form to aid in the requirement of teens. 
  • Planning webinars and other engagement events to broadcast joining the EAC Teens group. 
  • Supporting the work of the community engagement officer (electric school uses) to facilitate stakeholder engagement by organizing meetings, drafting agendas, and following up with engagement material as needed. 

Requirements/Qualifications 

  • Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment; 
  • Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback; 
  • Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset; 
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and topics; 
  • Experience working with youth, and teens; 
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365 / Experience with SharePoint 

Working Conditions  

The role will include working with the community and working with youth at EAC events, community events, and community outreach meetings.
