About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program
The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.
Program Requirements
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
- From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
- Must not be an immediate family member of host employer;
About the host employer
The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a coalition of individuals, organizations and institutions working in the Atlantic region to build and model just, equitable and sustainable communities, locally and globally. ACIC connects leadership across generations by strengthening members and partners, bridging dialogue and building networking and learning opportunities. ACIC also represents and amplifies the voice of Atlantic Canada and connects the Atlantic with other provincial, national and international stakeholders. The ACIC office is based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. The majority of ACIC staff are currently based in Nova Scotia, with provincial coordinators based in Charlottetown, PEI, and Fredericton, New Brunswick, respectively.
Summary of position
The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for reaching out to NGOs to interview them about their work towards the Sustainable Development Goals, and creating public engagement materials including short written pieces, social media content, infographics, and/ or audio/ video content. The successful candidate needs to be motivated with strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a small team.
Duties and Responsibilities
The SDG Engagement intern will support our work in showcasing how the SDGs are being addressed in Atlantic Canada. This project will develop creative visual materials that showcase ACIC Members and other CSOs in Atlantic Canada as they strive to accomplish the SDGs. It will also encourage intergenerational relationships, highlight the work of ACIC over the last 50 years and emphasize the Atlantic Canada international cooperation sector. The materials will be used to increase engagement and awareness of the SDGs in the region.
The SDG Engagement intern will work with ACIC programming and communications staff to record stories from ACIC members about their work on the SDGs. The SDG Engagement intern will create communications materials (blog series, social media content, infographics) to showcase the work being done to promote and achieve the SDGs in the Atlantic region. The material will also be included in a publication, which will be launched in Fall 2025. The SDG Engagement Intern will also interview alumni of the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) about their experiences working towards the SDGs during their overseas placements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create interview questions regarding organizations’ SDG work and impact;
- Coordinate interview times with ACIC members and other individuals and organizations in Nova Scotia and the Atlantic;
- Record interviews and coordinate capture of photos of interviewees;
- Write and design a blog series showcasing the work, which will include text, photos, and infographics;
- Create schedule of social media posts across multiple platforms;
- Update websites as required.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
- Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;
- Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;
- Ability to work independently and within a small team;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience using social media and web platforms;
- Experience creating promotional materials with Canva, MS Publisher, or other platforms;
- Knowledge of non-government organizations (NGO) international development and community groups in the Atlantic an asset;
- Experience conducting interviews an asset;
- Bilingual in English and French an asset.
Working Conditions
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required, with advance notice provided.
