Job title: Community Engagement Liaison

Reports to: Executive Director

Job location: 1415 Highway 105, Bras d’Or, NS

Wage: $17.20 / hour

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship)

Start Date: Expected May 20, 2025

Program Requirements 

  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;  
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship; 
  • From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship; 
  • Must not be an immediate family member of host employer; 

About the host employer 

The Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-operative is a non-profit organization that strives to create a stronger local food economy in Cape Breton by operating an online marketplace, running a retail store, managing a commercial kitchen and creating value added local food products through its production facility, while also engaging in educational and food security initiatives.

Summary of position  

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be the Cape Breton Food Hub. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for community engagement through on-site events, off-site promotions and social media content creation. This involves working with the Executive Director to plan events, create a content calendar promoting our island-wide distribution network for local food, and visiting local festivals and other events to promote the Food Hub.  The successful candidate needs to have excellent organizational skills and a keen attention to detail. The role also requires an enthusiastic “people person” with a passion for our mission. 

Duties and Responsibilities  

Community Engagement & Event Coordination: 

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to plan and organize on-site and off-site community events. 
  • Assist in the promotion and logistics of food-related events, local festivals, and activities aimed at increasing awareness of the Cape Breton Food Hub’s mission and services. 
  • Engage with community members and stakeholders during events to foster relationships and build partnerships. 

Content Creation & Social Media Management: 

  • Develop a content calendar to promote the Cape Breton Food Hub’s island-wide distribution network for local food. 
  • Create and curate engaging content (photos, videos, written posts) for social media platforms to raise awareness and encourage community engagement. 
  • Monitor and interact with followers on social media to build a strong, active online presence. 

Off-Site Promotions & Outreach: 

  • Represent the Food Hub at local festivals, markets, and other community events, promoting the services and products available through the organization. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and event organizers to expand the Food Hub’s network and visibility in the community. 

Administrative Support: 

  • Maintain records of events, outreach activities, and social media metrics for reporting and evaluation. 
  • Assist in preparing materials and presentations for community engagement initiatives. 

Team Collaboration & Reporting: 

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and other team members to ensure alignment of marketing, outreach, and event strategies with the Food Hub’s goals. 
  • Provide regular updates on community engagement activities, event success, and social media performance. 

Miscellaneous Duties: 

  • Participate in other tasks and projects as assigned to support the overall goals of the Food Hub. 
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to event planning and execution. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail. 
  • Enthusiastic, outgoing personality with a passion for community engagement and local food initiatives. 
  • Ability to create and curate engaging content for social media platforms. 
  • Experience with event planning and community outreach is an asset. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and basic content creation tools. 
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and tasks.
