About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program
The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.
Program Requirements
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
- From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
- Must not be an immediate family member of host employer;

Summary of position
The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be LP Consulting. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for working on a variety of diverse and impactful projects, contributing to nutrient management planning and agricultural soils and crop research. In addition, as required, support the launch of LP Consulting’s new and upcoming Agriculture Carbon Verification Program.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, research, and climate-focused initiatives while contributing to cutting-edge solutions for the agriculture industry. The successful candidate needs to have a minimum of one year of post-secondary education in fields such as environmental management, engineering, agriculture, biology, chemistry, applied science or courses related to climate change.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Sampling: Visit nutrient management clients to collect soil, manure, and plant tissue samples from farms across the Maritimes. Deliver samples to the agricultural lab.
- Data Management and Analysis: Receive, organize, and input lab results (e.g., macro and micronutrients, soil pH, cation exchange capacity) into our crop management and carbon nutrient management software programs. Develop farm maps and document field characteristics such as soil types and environmental considerations for spreading chemical fertilizers, manure and alternative soil amendments.
- Research Support: Assist with setting up, evaluating testing parameters, and harvesting crops for various research projects. This includes collecting soil and tissue samples and entering data for analysis.
- Engagement and Education: Provide support during agricultural meetings and field project demonstrations.
The goals of these activities are to develop nutrient management plans that determine the optimal supply of nutrients for plant production, ensure the responsible use of manure and other organic by-products, and minimize nonpoint source pollution to surface and groundwater. Another key goal is to support increased agricultural production while reducing environmental impacts, helping to combat climate change through research and program implementation.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
- Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;
- Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;
- Fluency in English and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word are required.
- Strong attention to detail is essential for the success of the projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently or in groups.
- Comfortable with meeting clients.
- Must hold a valid Canadian driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation to the office.
Working Conditions
Work days start at our office in Lower Sackville NS. A company vehicle is used for transport to sample sites. Majority of work is completed outside in various weather conditions. Much of the work is completed on farms and may include presence of manure, livestock, etc.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must have the physical stamina to conduct fieldwork, including walking and soil sampling in various seasonal weather conditions.
