Job title: Eco-Tourism Cycling Guide and Rental Attendant

Job location: 1549 Lower Water Street (Halifax Boardwalk) Halifax, NS

Wage: $17.00 / hour 

Hours: 35 hours per week (9-week internship)  

Start Date: Expected July 3, 2025

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects. 

About the host employer    

I Heart Bikes provides bike rentals and guided e-bike tours on the Halifax waterfront promoting eco-tourism and active, sustainable lifestyles and low-carbon transportation and futures. We emphasize fixing and repairing our bikes to all our staff as well as other waste reduction and environmentally positive practices.

Summary of position   

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be I Heart Bikes. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for: developing and promoting our guided and self-guided tours as well as developing and executing a community-based workshop around cycling (topic TBD by youth).

Duties and Responsibilities   

• Fulfill bike rental reservations and orders

• Assist in opening the store and properly set-up for the day

• Assist in closing the store and properly store equipment for use next day

• Ensure all rental equipment is returned and in adherence to the rental agreement

• Greet and assist customers

• Lead Guided Eco-cycling-tours; (option to review and suggest new content for guided and self-guided tours)

• Develop and executed community based workshop on cycling (topic TBD by intern

Requirements/Qualifications  

· Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;

· Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;

· Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;

· Proficiency in English both written and oral

· French or another spoken language is considered an asset

· Interest in bike maintenance and bicycling; bike maintenance experience will be considered a plus

· Enjoy working outdoors in a fast-paced environment; prepared to work in a variety of outdoor conditions including heat, rain and more cold temperatures on the shoulder season (May & October)

· Self-starter

· Active, energetic individual

· Punctual, dependable

Working Conditions 

Outdoors including hot summer months and more cold temperatures during the months of May & June.

Physical Requirements 

Physically demanding.
