Clean Energy & Equity Initiatives

Supporting underserved and underrepresented communities in Nova Scotia to enter and succeed in our growing clean economy.

The purpose of the Clean Energy and Equity Initiative is to assist underserved and underrepresented communities in Nova Scotia with growing their knowledge, skills and tools needed to enter and succeed in Nova Scotia’s growing clean energy economy.

Past Clean Energy & Equity Initiatives

The following programs are no longer being offered. 

Clean Energy & Equity Wage Subsidy Program

The Clean Energy & Equity Wage Subsidy Program, funded by Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources & Renewables and the federal Department of Natural Resources, is a wage subsidy initiative that places individuals from underrepresented and underserved groups in roles in the clean energy and economy sector. To help employers in Nova Scotia hire the talent they need and help grow the role of underrepresented and underserved communities within the clean economy in Nova Scotia, Clean Foundation will subsidize a portion of each participant’s salary for up to three months.

Custom Employment Support Training Bursary

Curious about career opportunities in clean energy—one of Canada’s fastest growing sectors? Apply for the Custom Employment Support Training Bursary to get the funding you need to kickstart your career.

Bursaries can be used to cover: 

  • Course tuition/fees at educational institutions (programs up to one-year in length).
  • Certifications from training institutes or community organizations.
  • Cost of tools and equipment.
  • Much more—tell us how we can help! 

Clean will support bursary recipients to enter careers in:  

  • Renewable energy (solar panel installer, wind turbine technician, engineering technology, etc.). 
  • Energy efficiency and Green Building (Energy Advisors, etc.).
  • Trades or technical work (Electricians, insulators, construction, etc.).
  • Tell us about your desired career.

This bursary might be for you if you are you looking to:  

  • Upskill to gain further skills to transition into clean energy.
  • Fund the missing ‘final piece’ to get into your clean energy dream job.
  • Enter a career in clean energy. 

To qualify, applicants must:  

  • Be at least 18 years.
  • Reside in Nova Scotia.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status.
  • Identify as an underrepresented or underserved individual in the clean energy sector. 

Energy Advisor Training

Running from October 11, 2022 to March 31, 2023, Clean’s Energy Advisor Trainee program is seeking candidates from underserved and underrepresented communities to participate in a cohort of learners. Through a uniquely created hands-on training program, trainees will obtain a working knowledge of innovative and sustainable construction and renovation practices.

Graduates from this program will be equipped with all the knowledge, skills, abilities, equipment, and connections required to become registered Energy Advisors through Natural Resources Canada and enter a highly in-demand industry in Nova Scotia.
