Job title: LaHave River Salmon Association Habitat Restoration Field technician   

Reports to: LaHave River Salmon Association Board of Directors 

Job location: LaHave River Watershed, Lunenburg County. 543 Glen Allan Dr, Bridgewater NS, B4v 0A8 

Wage: $18.50 / hr.

Hours: 35 hours per week (15-week internship) 

Start Date: Expected May 11, 2026

About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program 

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.  

 

Program Requirements 

• Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;  

• Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship; 

• From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship; 

• Must not be an immediate family member of host employer; 

 

About the host employer 

The LaHave River Salmon Association is a non-profit organization dedicated towards the conservation of Atlantic Salmon and other native species on the beautiful LaHave River in Nova Scotia Canada.  

 

Summary of position  

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be LaHave River Salmon Association. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for aiding in planning and completing habitat restoration projects on the west branch of the LaHave River. This will include but not be limited to in stream restoration, Acid Rain Mitigation, invasive species management and coordinating public events.The successful candidate needs to have organized, proficient in oral and written communication, enjoys working as part of a team but is self-motivated, enjoys the outdoors, has fishing skills and experience on the river, has experience or willing to do physical labour, and has a desire to learn.
 

Duties and Responsibilities  

• Completing in stream restorations work 

• Spread lime for acid rain mitigation 

• Angling for invasive species and collecting biological data 

• Other invasive species management strategies.  

• Planning educational and fishing events 

• Collecting and performing Habitat suitability assessments and water quality sampling 

• Coordinating presenters and community groups 

• Attend to the general improvement to the habitat of the LaHave Watershed 

 

Requirements/Qualifications 

• Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment; 

• Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback; 

• Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset; 

• Be willing to complete various training programs to complete summer tasks 

 

Working Conditions 
Part of this job will require the intern to work outside near water.  Experience wading through water and owning waders and other water safety equipment are an asset. 

 

Physical Requirements 
The habitat restoration part of this project will be physically demanding and will require lifting hauling and using a shovel.
