About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Programย
The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9-ย and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorshipย opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.ย ย

Program Requirementsย
- Must be a Canadian citizen,ย Permanent Resident,ย person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;ย ย
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 yearsย old (inclusive)ย atย the startย of internship;ย
- From and/or will beย residingย in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;ย
- Must not be an immediate family member ofย host employer;ย

Theย LaHaveย River Salmon Association is a non-profit organization dedicated towards the conservation of Atlantic Salmon and other native species on the beautifulย LaHaveย River in Nova Scotia Canada.ย ย

Summary ofย positionย ย
The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will beย LaHaveย River Salmon Association.ย In this position, you will beย mainly responsibleย forย aiding in planning and completing habitat restoration projects on the west branch of theย LaHaveย River. This will include but not be limited to in stream restoration, Acid Rain Mitigation, invasive species management and coordinating public events.The successful candidate needs to have organized, proficient in oral and written communication, enjoys working as part of a team but is self-motivated, enjoys the outdoors, has fishing skills and experience on the river, has experience or willing to do physical labour, and has a desire to learn.

Duties and Responsibilitiesย ย
- Completing in stream restorations workย
- Spread lime for acid rain mitigationย
- Angling for invasive species and collecting biological dataย
- Other invasive species management strategies.ย ย
- Planning educational and fishing eventsย
- Collecting and performing Habitat suitabilityย assessmentsย and water quality samplingย
- Coordinating presenters and community groupsย
- Attend to the general improvement to the habitat of theย LaHaveย Watershedย

Requirements/Qualificationsย
- Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;ย
- Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;ย
- Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;ย
- Be willing to complete various training programs to complete summer tasksย
ย
Working Conditionsย
Part of this job will require the intern to work outside near water.ย ย Experience wading through water and owning wadersย and other water safetyย equipmentย are an asset.ย
ย
Physical Requirementsย
The habitat restoration part of this project will be physicallyย demanding andย will require lifting hauling and using a shovel.ย
