About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program
The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.
Program Requirements
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
- From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
- Must not be an immediate family member of host employer;
About the host employer
The Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark is a UNESCO-designated region in Nova Scotia that celebrates and protects the area’s globally significant geology, dramatic landscapes, biodiversity, and cultural heritage. The Geopark works in collaboration with local communities, municipalities, Indigenous partners, educators, and organizations to promote geoconservation, education, and sustainable development. Through place-based programming, interpretation, and partnerships, the Geopark connects people to the natural environment while supporting climate awareness, environmental stewardship, and community-led sustainability initiatives across the region
Summary of position
The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for supporting climate action and environmental sustainability in the Geopark by linking environmental UN Sustainable Development Goals to local events, programs, and education, and working with community partners to promote public sustainability awareness. The successful candidate must have great people skills, be knowledgeable and passionate about the environment, and have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for local travel within the Geopark; mileage will be reimbursed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and explore environmental UN Sustainable Development Goals that align with the values, programming, and landscapes of the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark
- Support the planning and delivery of community events, programs, and educational initiatives that promote climate action, environmental stewardship, and sustainability awareness
- Collaborate with municipalities, community organizations, educators, tourism operators, and other partners to support shared environmental sustainability goals
- Assist in the development of educational and outreach materials that connect local Geopark stories and experiences to global environmental SDGs
- Support engagement activities that encourage climate literacy, nature conservation, and sustainable community practices
- Help document project activities, outcomes, and success stories to support Clean Foundation reporting and knowledge-sharing
Requirements/Qualifications
- Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
- Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;
- Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program, such as environmental studies, sustainability, geography, education, community development, or a related field
- Comfort working independently while also taking direction and feedback from supervisors
- Basic digital skills, including word processing, email, and online collaboration tools
- Ability to travel locally within the Geopark region to support meetings, events, or site visits.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends, as required for community events
Working Conditions
This job involves working with the public in a variety of community settings including the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
This job involves physical activity such as lifting, hiking/walking as required for event set-up, litter clean-ups, leading outdoor programs, etc.
