About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program
The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.
Program Requirements
- Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
- From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
- Must not be an immediate family member of host employer.

CAA Atlantic has been advocating on behalf of its Members and the mobile public since 1913. We pride ourselves on providing motorists, travellers, consumers, and decision-makers with the key information they need on any mobility-related matter. Our goal is to advocate for and influence positive change on issues and initiatives that are important to Canadians. This includes everything from road safety to consumer information, smart infrastructure, zero-emission vehicles, and travellers’ rights. CAA Atlantic has seven offices across Atlantic Canada. The CAA Atlantic Nova Scotia headquarters is located at 330 John Savage Ave, Dartmouth, NS.
Summary of position
The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be CAA Atlantic Limited. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for educating the citizens of Atlantic Canada on the many benefits of electric vehicles and offering an opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle for themselves. The successful candidate needs to have a clean driving record, excellent communications skills and the ability to show passion and enthusiasm for electric vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote CAA Atlantic’s EV strategy by engaging the public on the benefits of owning an EV and encouraging them test drive one
- Help develop and share content for social media, press releases and CAA’s EV webpage
- Work with partners and colleagues to ensure events are delivered efficiently and effectively in key target regions and communities
- Liaise with community partners to plan and host test drive events
- Travel to and from and set up test drive booths at events (including evenings and weekends)
- Learn about EVs and their benefits, and be able to speak confidently and knowledgably about them to the public
- Be an engaging and enthusiastic representative of CAA’s EV strategy for the public and other stakeholders
- Support the safe and responsible completion of EV test drives
- Support the measurement and analysis of key event metrics and success indicators
- Proactively provide ideas for improvement of EV events
- Maintain all event inventory (tents, tables, tablets, promotional items, etc.)
- Ensure proper Occupational Health & Safety procedures are followed
- Other related duties as required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment
- Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback
- Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset
- Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be between the ages of 21 and 30
- Must be a full-time student intending to return to school in the semester following this internship
- Working towards a degree in Sustainability, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Community Engagement, or related field is considered an asset
- Excellent networking skills and a high comfort level with public speaking
- Passion for electric vehicles
- Must possess a valid Canadian driver’s license and a clean Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicles
- Proficiency with common office software, such as Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Valid First Aid and WHIMIS would be considered an asset
- Bilingualism (French) would be considered an asset
- Knowledgeable about automotive mechanics would be considered an asset
- Experience facilitating community outreach events would be considered an asset
- Experience organizing public education and training events would be an asset.
Working Conditions
The job may require the candidate to:
- work outside during hot or rainy days
- stand on their feet many hours a day
- load and unload equipment when setting up and tearing down booths
- drive to offsite locations, sometimes for multiple hours consecutively.
